The following check list goes over the primary causes of Dispatch system launch failures and the solutions to the issues.

1.Correct Java version installed

Dispatch is a web Launched Java application that needs Java to be installed on the local client workstation.

Dispatch will run on Java version 1.5.0 or greater.

To check to see what version of Java is installed on your workstation go into “Control Panel” and click the Java Icon. On the General tab click the About button.

As long as the Java version is 1.5.0 or greater Dispatch will work.

If there is no Java Icon in the Control Panel then you will need to download Java from:

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Select the JRE not the JDK download.

2.

Invalid Java cache files

When you Launch Dispatch and the Java Download screen appears:

At this point the Java files are being downloaded to your workstation, once completed the Java runtime will launch Dispatch. If Dispatch fails to launch or a Java error window appears then clearing your Java cache can correct this problem.

To clear your java cache you must go into Windows Control Panel and click on the Java Icon and on the general tab click on the “Settings” button in the Temporary Internet Files panel.

Click on the Delete files button to erase all temporary Java cache files.

3. Network connectivity

If there are network issues the Java download screen can either timeout or stall. When this condition occurs the Java Web Start window will stay open in a stalled state. If this occurs then try again when the network issues have been resolved or try from another workstation.

4. Local Firewall

Some organizations control what web sites are viewable or accessible. Dispatch runs over the standard web site port so most firewalls will not block it from functioning.

Highlights

Complete incident management and reporting system

Captures, stores, displays, and reports against all data collected for an incident, via an electronic incident record.

Web based incident “web white board” that provides daily operations and planning view of fire and resource activity

Single point of data entry - integrates with Dispatch, PRT, and other fire systems to allow viewing and if allowed editing of incident info. For example, fire size data entered operationally thru Dispatch is also available in the Final Fire Report.

Browse, display, and report on information related to an incident, including that collected by other systems such as PRT and Dispatch.

Creates an electronic incident record that is a complete incident picture and story with revisions and timestamps

Supports ICS and agency specific organization and business rules.

Standardized costing to automate daily cost estimate roll-ups based on resource dispositions and standard costs.

Web based data entry allows field crews to add additional information to fire reports that have been auto-populated with fire info from other systems (ex Dispatch).

Web based Final Fire Report status tracking and online review and sign-off

Database technology allows editing of past events without losing audit-ability of when edits occurred.

Supports advanced reporting infrastructure for operational and historical fire / incident reporting
